Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance & The Umbrella Academy

Gerard Way is known across the globe as the singer and frontman of My Chemical Romance. MCR led a cultural transformation of rock in the 2000's, dominating sales and music charts along the journey. You may also recognize Gerard's epic comic book The Umbrella Academy, which was picked up by Netflix and made into a popular TV series. Gerard discovered our studio in his search for the perfect instrument to use on his next project. Our world-famous collection attracts musicians from around the world, and it is our pleasure to help everyone from new emerging artists to established global rockstars in finding the best tools to accomplish the tone and vibe they need!

Angie Brown

Angie Brown is known to anyone who listened to music in the 90's or who has been to a wedding! You've heard her epic vocals on her hit song I'm Gonna Get You (Bizarre Inc) and on Mark Morrison's hit song Return of the Mack. You may have even seen Angie recently on TV's The Voice or on an episode of the British television institution: Come Dine With Me. We were the studio of choice for Angie's latest project and had a fantastic time recording her phenomenal vocals through our Chandler REDD mic!

Post Malone

Post Malone is a global star that needs no introduction. His music is amongst the most purchased and streamed in the world. You have likely seen him on the silver screen alongside Jason Statham in Guy Ritchie's "Wrath of Man" or recently on Saturday Night Live alongside Selena Gomez. As GQ Magazine's brand ambassador, Post was invited by the magazine to buy anything in the world that he wanted... but with a catch. He could only pick one item per category. Post chose our studio for it's world-famous instrument collection, where he spotted our Dean USA Custom Shop guitar owned by Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine that he had to have!

Tommy. is the most exciting artist & producer emerging out of the UK to hit the scene for 2023. Tommy's latest single received immediate national radio play in the UK on BBC Radio 1 and landed on Spotify's Misfits 2.0 global editorial playlist. Tommy has been named a BBC Introducing "Sound of the Year" and is sought after by major artists to make innovative music that sounds modern and unique. Tommy. incorporates cinematic and ethereal elements into his music. Expect dark stories, memorable verses and catchy choruses from this artist.

The Darkness

The Darkness are one of the UK's most recognisable 21st century rock bands around the world. The platinum selling band has taken top honours from Kerrang, MTV, BRIT Awards, Metal Hammer, RIAA, ASCAP and many other awarding bodies. VH1 lists "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" in the top 100 rock songs of all time as well as one of the top songs of the 2000's. A good amount of gear in our studio was used on their records. The band tapped our facility to mix on their latest project.

Charlotte Awbery went viral with tens of millions of views across the internet and social media in 2020 after being asked to sing Lady Gaga's "Shallow" in the London subway system (the tube) by a stranger. Charlotte went on to become a global phenomenon on international television after being flown out by Ellen DeGeneres to perform live on her hit TV show. Charlotte chose our team to record her first original songs after becoming a viral household name.

Josh Klinghoffer of Red Hot Chilli Peppers

Josh Klinghoffer is known to the world as the guitarist of Rock legends Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Klinghoffer was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, becoming the youngest living person ever to do so at 32. Klinghoffer is now a member of Pear Jam and enjoys working on several other projects. It was our world famous pro audio gear collection that attracted Klinghoffer to our studio, where one of our rare compressors was exactly what Josh was looking for!

Naomi Banks

Naomi Banks can be heard on the global Netflix/TV hit show "Love Island" and is regularly playlisted on BBC Radio 1. Banks attended the prestigious Purcell School of Music alongside Grammy winning classmate Jacob Collier. She has performed on some of the most famous stages around the world and is a breakthrough solo artist for 2021. Naomi came to us to record vocals on our Chandler REDD mic for her recent release and now makes our studio her home headquarters for recording. 

Andy Sneap - Judas Priest

Andy Sneap is a Grammy winning producer and guitarist in Judas Priest. He is one of the most prolific and active producers in the heavy metal music genre and has worked with bands such as Judas Priest, Accept, Blaze Bayley, Dream Theater, Saxon, Opeth, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, Exodus, Megadeth, Kataklysm, Nevermore, Testament, Carcass, Fear Factory, Overkill and DevilDriver. Andy is a good friend of the studio and brought us some incredible gear to add to our world-famous instrument collection the last time he was here. You can see our hour long interview with him on our YouTube channel. Andy called us up when he needed the perfect guitar for Judas Priest's first show in two years at Bloodstock 2021. We drove straight from the studio to Bloodstock and brought him our Jackson Randy Rhoads RR1T guitar that he would then take on tour with Priest across America, including a special appearance where Kirk Hammett joined the stage with the same guitar! 

John McClain - Interscope Records, DreamWorks, Michael Jackson Estate

John McClain is one of the biggest names in the music industry that operates behind the scenes. John launched the careers of Janet Jackson, Dr. Dre and was a founding partner of Interscope records alongside Jimmy Iovine. John would go on to run DreamWorks Records and purchase Marvin Gaye's recording studio "Marvin's Room" in Los Angeles where the biggest names in the music business like Michael Jackson, Prince and Drake would go on to record. John became the executor of the Michael Jackson estate after his untimely passing. Our studio provided two extremely rare compressors that John was after for Marvin's Room, where they now continue to make world class music.

Ed Drewett - One Direction, Little Mix, The Wanted, Louis Tomlinson

Ed Drewett is a prolific songwriter who is best known for his contributions and collaborations with acts such as One Direction, Little Mix, Jonas Blue, The Wanted, Olly Murs and SG Lewis. He has written on chart topping hits like "Best Song Ever", "Shout Out To My Ex", "Black Magic", "All Time Low", "Glad You Came" and many more! It was our world-famous instrument collection that attracted Ed to our studio, where he picked a stunning Gibson Les Paul 1959 Reissue to use on his futures projects.

Joss Allen

Joss Allen is known to guitarists around the world for being the official guitar demo player for the Andertons Music YouTube channel. He did the official guitar demos for GAK as well and has just launched his own channel where he performs the heaviest of the heavy riffs on the most radical metal guitars on the planet. Joss is a friend of the studio that wanted one of our ultra rare guitars that he had been searching for across the globe for years! We have shot some great YouTube videos with Joss as well, and you can see the on our channel!

David Ajala

David Ajala is a star that you have seen on the silver screen and on your TV. Having roles in the Fast & Furious and Batman movie franchises, he is a star character in the Supergirl tv series and Netflix's Star Trek: Discovery. The roles keep getting bigger and bigger for David, and he is becoming a go-to actor in the sci-fi and fantasy genres. A director for a SKY TV movie production came to our studio needing a world-class facility and team to support David recording dialogue for the film. We had a fantastic experience with him here and look forward to seeing his exciting career progress to even greater heights!

 

Voodoo Six

Voodoo Six are a British band formed by bassist Tony Newton and Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner. They have played some of the biggest arena stages around the world alongside legendary metal heroes Iron Maiden. They have performed at some of the biggest rock festivals in the world including Download and Sonisphere. The band came to us to record vocals and mix on our SSL console for their last release.

Matt Terry

Matt Terry is an international Top 10 charting artist famous for his hit song "Sucker For You" with over 120 Million streams, his top charting song with Enrique Iglesias and Sean Paul, and his victory as the X-Factor winner performing alongside Nicole Scherzinger. Matt chose our studio to write his latest material and collaborate with our production team.

Forged In Black

Forged In Black are the premiere metal band from Essex, England. Signed to Fighter records, their upcoming album was recorded and mixed here at Essex Recording Studios. The band won a coveted slot at Bloodstock after beating out the competition at the Metal To The Masses concert series. Operatic vocals, blistering guitar riffs and thunderous metal drum beats... everything you could possibly want is heard in the music of Forged In Black!

Jay Bizzy

Jay Bizzy is a new singer songwriter & multi-instrumentalist that has hit the British urban scene hard as fresh artist emerging during the global pandemic and the UK national lockdown. He has been featured on the UK's largest music platforms including GRM Daily and Mixtape Madness. His video collaborations with Loki Films achieved over a million streams in 2022 and led to multiple spins on BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 1xtra. Bizzy's latest 2023 release saw its video jump to nearly a million views on GRM and go to #1 on YouTube music for all songs worldwide on their platform for the Birmingham metro area in the UK.

Youth Illusion

 

Youth Illusion are a UK rock band based in London with members from all around the world. Singer/guitarist and frontman Zach is from Texas and saves lives as a NHS paramedic and ambulance driver in London when he is not killing it on stage or in the studio. Lead guitarist Matteo is from Italy and can typically be seen wielding a stunning Les Paul Custom. Bassist Rory hails from South Africa with drummer Heath born in the UK. This band is the United Nations of Rock! We've been with the guys from the beginning and have recorded two records with them. They've been building a strong organic following and have some major shows lined up for 2023!

Blánid

Blánid Singer/songwriter BLÁNID is a fresh new voice on the indie-folk scene. Hailing from Ireland, she has a hauntingly powerful voice and confessional style. Her enchanting music has been played across the UK on BBC Radio 1 and is featured on the hit Netflix TV show "The Witcher." Our studio hosted Blánid for song writing and recording. We're excited for her future releases!

 

Michael Blackwell

Michael Blackwell is one of the world's most prolific session players and has performed on all of America's late night shows and on the biggest stages around the world. As the guitarist for Louis Tomlinson, Lewis Capaldi, Amber Run and many other artists, there is not much that Michael has not seen or done! Michael is a friend of the studio and has come in to elevate songs for our artists demanding the best guitar work on their tracks. 

Midé

Midé shot to fame in 2021 as part of Sir Tom Jones' handpicked singers on Series 10 of TV's The Voice, making it all the way through to the semi-finals. Prior to these regular appearances on national television, Midé came to our facility to record his debut album "E.G."

Matt Tuck of Bullet For My Valentine

Matt Tuck is the singer/guitarist & frontman of legendary rockers Bullet For My Valentine. The band is royalty in the metal community, having won numerous Kerrang! and Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards. Their debut album The Poison saw massively successful singles and videos released that catapulted the band into being a household name, sharing stages with the likes of Metallica and Guns N' Roses. Matt came to our studio a few times where we happened to have one of his prototype BC Rich signature guitars and where he brought us his Peavy 6505 amp and his epic 1965 Fender Stratocaster finished in Sunburst that he bought in Chicago years earlier. We love building our studio's collection with instruments and gear that have a story behind it and that have been used to record music that inspires future artists that come through our doors.



King of the Dead

King of the Dead are the boldest new rock band to emerge out of the UK in 2021. Their debut single "Control" received immediate radio play and earned them recognition from the BBC as a Sound of 2021...a group likely to gain significant momentum this year. This secretive band is formed of young rockers who are veterans of the biggest festivals and tours in the world from their previous bands. A new single is being released each month with unique artwork from horror artist Sam Mayle. All of their songs have been recorded, mixed and mastered here at Essex Recording Studios, so check them out on Spotify and YouTube!

BETA SQUAD

Beta Squad are one of the most trending channels on YouTube with millions of views on every video they release each week. The Squad tapped our studio's owner Keith Gannon to collaborate on one of the most popular videos on their channel in a 6 vs 1 challenge with Americans. 

Bootyard Bandits

Bootyard Bandits are the leading country-rock band in the UK. They are formed of rock veterans from a variety of established bands that have toured extensively across the world on the biggest stages that exist. They've had national radio play, viral music videos and their singer Joel Peters has joined the modern incarnation of Motörhead in Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons. Phil was Motörhead's lead guitarist and carries on the band's legacy. Several of the band's track were recorded and mixed at our studio, including our fav "Let's Rodeo!" 

Hannah Paris

Hannah Paris is a British country singer-songwriter that has wade waves in the UK country music scene. She gained the attention of Spotify this past year and achieved significant placement on official playlists. Hannah came to us to elevate her music and record her first pro-studio single. We also developed a crowdfunding strategy that saw her raise over £1,000 on Kickstarter. The single received immediate radio play, and Hannah was quickly picked up by Hard Rock to be a brand ambassador and play their stage at the iconic Isle of Wight Festival.

Mel Gaynor of Simple Minds

Mel Gaynor is a prolific drummer and was the longtime member of legendary UK band Simple Minds where he can be seen in their music video for their hit song Don't You (Forget About Me). Prior to Simple Minds, Gaynor was in the hard rock band Samson alongside Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson. It was our studio's pleasure to host Mel over the summer of 2022.

Tom Lord-Alge - Spank Studios

Tom Lord-Alge is one of the most sought after engineers in the world. From Blink 182 to P!NK to Avril Lavigne and Sum 41... Tom Lord-Alge's mixes defined an entire generation of sound. His brother Chris Lord-Alge is just as famous and well known for his influence on sound engineering and mixing around the world. Tom came to our studio for a crucial bit of SSL gear that wasn't available anywhere else in the world. It is our pleasure supplying the biggest names in the industry with the critical solutions they need to make the music we all love. 

T Markoo

T Markoo is a new artist who broke through on TikTok with over 4 Million plays of his very first singing duet. He now has hundreds of thousands of loyal followers, millions of likes and 8-digit streams on TikTok thanks to his talented voice & regular engagement with fans. He came to us for his first ever professional studio sessions and to record his debut songs as a professional recording artist. 

Big Drink


Big Drink Hail from the quaint market towns of Newbury and Hereford and are in stark contrast to their tranquil origins. The lively six-piece came together with one true goal; to pen and perform catchy as hell pop-punk music that is upbeat, energetic and full of down-tuned riffs. Their songwriting and melodies will have you singing along and jumping off your feet. The band recorded the unplugged acoustic version of their most popular song at out studio, where we used a rare 1994 Centennial Gibson acoustic and a Steven King signed Taylor "Kujo" Custom Shop flame walnut acoustic guitar.

DiAmorte

DiAmorte  are an operatic metal band based in Chicago and comprised of James Stewart (Vader) on drums, Mike LePond (Symphony X) on bass,
James Stephenson (Gene Loves Jezebel, Gen X, The Cult, etc.) on Guitars and Colin Parks (Devilment, Ghosts of Atlantis) on vocals with other special artists contributing to vocals. The band achieved its Kickstarter goal in 40 minutes to fund its first project, raising over a whopping $160,000 in total! The band chose our studio for our world-class mic and mic pre-amp collection to record vocals for their project. Band member Colin Parks is a good friend of our studio and a regular visitor.

His Excellency Mr Javier Esteban Figueroa - Argentina's Ambassador

His Excellency Mr Javier Esteban Figueroa is Argentina's ambassador to the United Kingdom after serving important posts as ambassador to South Africa and Cuba. His Excellency came to our studio along with the O Guitars family to bring us the finest custom built nylon string electric guitar in the world, crafted completely in Argentina! We also got to have an amazing evening with the ambassador and his team at his famous residence in Belgravia Square in London. We are tremendously happy to have him and the O Guitars family as friends of our studio and look forward to building stronger ties with Argentina's musical community in the years to come!

Dominic Littlewood

Dominic Littlewood has been an institution on British television for years. From investigative journalism to Dancing With The Stars and Celebrity Master Chef, it's tough not to have seen Dominic on TV at some point! Our studio was the facility of choice for voiceover work performed by him on his show BBC One TV show "Dom Delivers."

Peter Davison

Peter Davison is loved around the world as the 5th doctor in the Doctor Who television franchise. You have also seen him on Agatha Christie's Marple, Law and Order: UK, Sherlock, Call The Midwife and many other great TV series! Our studio provided Peter with the premium Neumann microphone he needed to carry out his highly in-demand voice over work for television. 

The Signatures Northern Soul Band

The Signatures are the premiere Northern Soul band in the UK and tour extensively across the country and abroad. Comprised of top tier veterans that are masters of their craft, The Signatures  chose our world-class facility to record their latest project. It was our mic collection that they had to have when it came time to record vocals for Georgia Crandon as well! 

Mugzz

Mugzz is a new rapper signed to Sony Music label WEAREBLK and can be found on every major British streaming platform with 7-figure streams on his songs and music videos. Mugzz began his recording artist journey in our studio and regularly returns to record, with his latest music video "Rich In GBP" shot in our facility.

Untold Poet

Untold Poet is a UK, Essex-born rapper/songwriter and former frontman of ‘New Subjects.’ Supporting credits include ‘The 1975’ and ‘Labrinth.’ Untold Poet's matured beats and fine-tuned flows are arguably the most exciting sound to bridge the gap between RnB, rap and poetic rhythm. With subtle influences of Drake, Kano, The Streets and Bon Iver, the energy is laced with forward-thinking wit and unexpected, honest emotion. Crowned ‘Sound of 2021’ by BBC Introducing, Untold is building a stead following around his message.
